WHEELS

SHIMANO WH-RS171

The SHIMANO WH-RS171 wheel is an aluminum light disc brake wheel. It weighs about 900g, and provides excellent value if you are on a budget. The WH-RS171 is a great training wheel if you do not want to ride a lot on your race wheels, or a great option as a first wheelset that allow money in the pocket for other upgrades.

RED CROWN OPAL (40mm)

The RED CROWN OPAL is our in house 40mm deep wheel. This wheel has been aerodynamically optimized and made as light as possible to provide unmatched efficiency on a long climb. 40mm wheels are great for any kind of bike. The shallow profile is very stable in a crosswind. When paired with a deeper rear wheel in a triathlon this wheel is hard to beat!

RED CROWN EMERALD (60mm)

The RED CROWN EMERALD is our in house 60mm deep wheel. The 60mm wheel is the "Goldilocks" wheel. Not too deep where it heavily affects your front end steering. Not to shallow where you sacrifice aerodynamics for weight. It is just right. If you are unsure about prioritizing aerodynamics and performance, or weight and handling the 60mm wheel is a great option. If using on a triathlon bike it is recommended to pair with a deeper rear wheel that way you get the aerodynamic benefit without the steering effect in the front, and the efficiency of a deeper section wheel in the rear.

RED CROWN BERYL (88mm)

The RED CROWN BERYL is our in house 88mm wheel. An 88mm wheel is very efficient wheel, however this aerodynamic performance comes at the cost of a weight increase and a handling difference in a cross wind. This wheel has a greater side profile than the wheels of shallower depth, in a cross wind this will act as a "sail" to push the wheel around. If you are a confident cyclist this will not be an issue. If you are a less confident cyclist the best way to get used to this feeling is to ride on the deep sectioned wheels more often! This wheel is great for a flat fast course, with a few turns and mild elevation gain.

RED CROWN RUBY

The RUBY is our in house Tri-Spoke wheel. A tri-spoke wheel is more aerodynamically efficient than the 88mm wheel but with the increase side profile the wheel is very susceptible to being blown around in a cross wind. This wheel's use case is very similar to the 88m wheel, great on flat fast courses, less great on super hilly courses. People often run either a tri-spoke in the front and rear, or a tri-spoke front and a disc wheel on the rear for the most aerodynamically efficient combination.

RED CROWN PURL

The RED CROWN PURL is our in house disc wheel. A disk wheel is the fastest (most aerodynamically efficient) choice for a rear wheel. The disc wheel is heavier than the other wheel types, and has the most surface area for a cross wind to blow you around on. If you are a confident cyclist chasing every last watt the disc wheel is the choice for you!
